Jackson is the composer, lyricist, and playwright of the musical, which won five Drama Desk Awards and two Lucille Lortel Awards.
This Broadway production stars Jaquel Spivey as Usher, a young artist aspiring to write a play. The story follows Usher as he struggles against the commercialism of Hollywood conglomerates but also explores his own inner conflicts. The musical also showcases the talents of a Greek chorus of six actors, who play various roles in the show.
Usher explains that the title references a theory by Douglas Hofstader. He also says that the music he plays matches that of Liz Phair’s character.
